Shawn Fleek

Interim Communications Director

Shawn Fleek, Hinen (Northern Arapaho, he/they) has spent his career convening groups with divergent views, with more than a decade convening local leadership to define the future of our city. He brought together leaders from the City of Portland, Multnomah County, Metro, Oregon’s Governor, and community nonprofits to secure multi-jurisdictional investment in East Portland’s environmental quality. He facilitated the launch of the Multnomah County Climate Justice Collaborative, and supported members to win ballot measures and legislative campaigns. By organizing and providing backbone support for the Oregon Just Transition Alliance, Shawn helped found a collaborative of frontline organizers and base-building, nonviolent direct action organizations. OJTA held the first ever Oregon Just Transition Assembly, providing 250 grassroots community members political education in regenerative ecologies. He has introduced racial equity and socialized its application in predominantly-white spaces, and overseen high-trust electoral scenario planning for Beltway insiders. He has helped Fortune 500 companies communicate difficult truths globally, and designed audience-focused storytelling for Portland nonprofits.

Shawn is a full-time husband, father, and artist, spending his spare time writing essays, short fiction, and music. He serves as the Board Treasurer of the NAYA Action Fund, a 501c4 advocacy organization. He describes himself as a hype man for humanity and cage free futures.
