Join the ACLU of Oregon on Wednesday, May 28th at 6pm PDT for a presentation and conversation with Hardy Merriman, an international expert on pro-democracy movements.
Merriman works to support movements that advance human rights, freedom, and justice around the world. In particular, he focuses on the use of civil resistance—including tactics such as strikes, boycotts, protests, acts of noncooperation, and many other nonviolent methods—to counter authoritarian rule.
A growing body of research finds that civil resistance movements are one of the most powerful drivers of democratic change over the last century. Merriman presents, writes, researches, and develops programs that advance education, advocacy, and practice in this field.
Merriman served as the former President of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, an advisor to USAID, was the principal investigator of the "Fostering a Fourth Democratic Wave" project at the Atlantic Council where he was a senior fellow, and previously worked at the Albert Einstein Institute.
Please note: ACLU of Oregon are inviting a wide array of folks to this webinar, including ACLU of Oregon members and supporters, nonprofit organizations and funders, community and elected leaders and officials, and other community members.
