Districting Talk with Common Cause Leaders

Portland is currently going through a historic districting process to shift from at-large representation to four geographic districts under our new form of government. District maps must be adopted by September, and we want to support the conversation around important issues and risks to consider.

We will be joined by two leaders in the issue of districting: Jonathan Mehta Stein, a voting rights attorney and Executive Director of California Common Cause, and Kathay Feng, a voting and civil rights lawyer and Vice President of Programs at Common Cause.

These two experts will highlight lessons learned and cautionary tales from other cities about how place and race impact district representation and governance, with a focus on the role of “public assets” like cultural centers and business districts in shaping district leadership.

Bring your thoughts and questions!
